Instruments
At Merryhills, we are proud to offer a wide range of instrumental opportunities as the children progress through the school. Current whole class provision includes Glockenspiels in Year 2, Recorders in Year 3, Violins in Year 4 and Ukulele in Year 5 and 6.
A small sample who show particular aptitude in Recorders may be offered an extended opportunity to take part in a flute/clarinet programme.
In order to play instruments, the children will be taught how to read music and will later compose pieces.

Music in Action
As well as playing instruments, children will be exposed to watching music live. An example of this was when Year 5 went to The Barbican to see the London Philharmonic Orchestra. We welcome any musicians in our parent community to come in and play to the children as there is nothing like the magic of live music to inspire and motivate our children.
Enfield Music Service
If your child is interested in learning to play an instrument, you can contact the Enfield Music Service regarding in school tuition. Please note that this is not a school funded activity.
