We have a carefully thought-out structure of planned assemblies throughout the week. This is a valuable opportunity for the pupils of all ages to engage and reflect collectively.
Monday Values/PSHE Assembly: Each half term will begin and end with an assembly which will focus on the current value of the half-term; shared through stories, real life examples and various other stimuli. This assembly supports the teaching of values and ensures they fully embedded in to our school curriculum. Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 will have separate assemblies. Other Monday assemblies will focus on a variety of PSHE topics.
Tuesday Global Assembly: This assembly will focus on global awareness; looking at current affairs, national days as well as promoting the schools’ future charity events. This will provide children with the chance to reflect on pertinent issues across the globe.
Wednesday Singing Assembly: We are fortunate to have talented, musical staff at Merryhills who will lead a weekly singly assembly; children of our school will sing together to raise the roof on our school hall! Our wonderful choir will be used as role models and will often showcase their own after school efforts. Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 will have separate assemblies.
Thursday Class assembly or Religious Education assembly:
Class assembly: This will be a celebration of all the wonderful learning taking place in their classroom. Parents and classes within the class’ phase are invited to watch our assemblies on Thursdays. See dates below.
Religious Education assembly: At Merryhills, we are very proud to be a multi-faith school and in order to celebrate our diversity, these assemblies will be used to share knowledge on various beliefs and cultures with a predominant focus on special religious festivals taking place across the World. Children will have an opportunity for quiet reflection to end these assemblies. Key Stage 2 assembly will take place in the hall whereas Key Stage 1 will have a smaller scale assembly in their classroom.
Friday Achievement assembly: This an opportunity to celebrate the achievement of Merryhills’ pupils including Outstanding Student for each class, success with House Points and the celebration of those classes with the best attendance for the week.
